EFA is recruiting an Executive director (H/F)
The mission of EFA is to develop fundraising across Europe by strengthening national fundraising associations and organisations and to promote fundraising, philanthropy and the work of not-for-profit organisations at the EU level.
After 21 years led by a volunteer board, EFA seeks to recruit an Executive Director. This role presents a unique opportunity to build on the successes of recent years, raise the association’s profile and influence, expand the membership base, and strengthen relationships and networks with partner organisations across Europe and globally. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of EFA.

This new role will be pivotal to EFA’s success and future impact. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work across the membership, developing and managing partnerships with a range of organisations across Europe and globally. By creating a sustainable funding model, the Executive Director will revolutionise how EFA contributes knowledge to the fundraising community, making a tangible impact on a European level.
As our Executive Director, you will work with the Board, the EFA Certification and Public Affairs Committees, and other volunteer member groups to ensure that EFA is a collective voice for Europe’s fundraising community.
Primary Responsibilities
The job holder will have the following primary responsibilities:
Strategic planning and priority setting
- Provide leadership and guidance in defining priorities to secure sustainable funding and implement the organisation’s goals.
- Work with the Board of Directors and the General Assembly to achieve these priorities.
Coordinating and developing the EFA network
- Develop and deliver a member engagement plan that aids retention and ongoing dialogue with our member communities.
- Develop strategic partnerships that offer member organisations the tools and resources to help them grow giving in their respective countries and create financial stability for EFA.
- Curate and host engagement events to showcase best practices and facilitate networking.
Public Affairs
- Ensure EFA is recognised as a credible policy and public affairs representative for the European fundraising community.
- In cooperation with the Public Affairs Committee, develop and deliver a forward-thinking and inclusive public affairs plan that anticipates and responds to challenges and opportunities within the European fundraising sector and wider civil society.
Research on fundraising
- Raise the profile of EFA through the development of our website and the online bulletin, Fundraising Europe, to inform and equip the sector and other stakeholders.
- In cooperation with members and partners, produce and distribute knowledge on fundraising and giving through annual European fundraising landscape surveys and reports.
Certification
- Work with our Certification Committee to accredit professional development programmes championing European fundraising excellence.
- Grow the number of member organisations applying for EFA certification for their professional development courses and programmes or seeking re-certification.
Experience and skillset
- A senior and experienced individual with a significant and demonstrated track record in an NGO, civil society organisation or public body.
- Strong financial acumen with proven experience and solid fundraising skills.
- Sound strategic planning abilities with a proven track record of achieving targets.
- Demonstrated experience and success in global partnership building, convening stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in effective advocacy with both internal and external audiences.
- Fluent in English; good knowledge of other languages is an asset.
Manages: Supported on a day-to-day basis by a part-time Executive Officer
Contract type: Fixed term/consultancy dependent on location of candidate
Working hours: 2 days a week
Candidate level: Executive management team
Salary: €80,000, prorated salary €32,000 for two days per week
Salary is offered based on experience and location, adjusted based on the cost of labour for the country in which the candidate resides. Candidates must have the right to work in the country they are applying from.
